Master, St Edmund’s College

St Edmund’s College, one of the University of Cambridge colleges, accepts undergraduate and postgraduate students over the age of 21.  The Fellows of St Edmund’s College are seeking to elect a new Master to succeed Catherine Arnold OBE to take up the position in October 2024.

The University of Cambridge is ranked second in the QS World University Rankings and remains the highest-rated higher education institution in the UK.  The Master of St Edmund’s College will be an ambassador for the College, within a collegiate University, as well as continuing to heighten our external engagement and reputation on a global level.

The next Master will provide the overall leadership for the College to fulfil its charitable objectives to advance education, religion, learning and research.  They will embody our core values of open-mindedness, inclusiveness and integrity, and empower others to do the same.

Our next Master will be integral to building on the strategic vision agreed by the Governing Body in 2021, whilst navigating the College through a complex financial environment.

Candidates will possess exceptional interpersonal, managerial, leadership, and diplomatic abilities. With a notable track record in their chosen field, candidates will demonstrate both intellectual strength and a genuine empathy for and dedication to fostering an academically outstanding international community.

We seek as wide a pool of candidates as possible and welcome excellent applicants with a proven record from all backgrounds and walks of life. Candidates must exhibit a keen interest in and understanding of the broader higher education landscape, along with the ability and influence to engage effectively with academic colleagues. However, we welcome applicants from outside the higher education sector.

At St Edmund’s, we pride ourselves on being a place in Cambridge where people of all backgrounds are welcomed, will feel at home and can flourish.  In line with our EDI Charter, we welcome and encourage all candidates regardless of their demographic characteristics such as gender, race, disability, neurodiversity, religion, age, sex and sexual identity to apply for our opportunities. We make sure that our College can be everyone’s College, and understand our differences are what makes us St Edmund’s.
