Location: Surrey, Surrey International Study Centre

Salary: up to £ 32.28 per hour

This presents a great employment opportunity for you to join our Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Team as a Math Tutor. Your responsibilities will include instructing both medium-sized classes and small seminars for international students enrolled in our Level 3 International Foundation Year and/or Level 6 programs. This academic year, we are implementing a blended learning approach, necessitating on-campus session delivery. Proficiency in utilizing technology is essential, as you will also engage with students through our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). The role offers the autonomy to work in an environment that promotes student-centered, innovative lessons.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Ensure the module teams implement the modules to the module and programme specifications, academic calendar and in module deadlines and requirements to ensure the best possible student outcomes and student experience.

  • Assist in producing a set of agreed documentation for each course and module including course outlines, module handbooks, schemes of work and teaching material. Review documentation regularly for accuracy and appropriateness.

  • Ensure that all assessments for agreed modules in the subject area are prepared in a timely fashion to agreed deadlines and are appropriate, fair, and secure.

  • Support the Head of Subject to ensure all students on agreed modules receive effective assessment feedback.

  • Support with the planning, and leading of standardisation, and moderation meetings.

  • Support the Head of Subject in liaising with External Examiners for the subject area, providing information to External Examiners as required and responding to recommendations.

  • Act as an Academic Mentor for one or more groups of students.

  • Implement quality assurance procedures at module and teaching session level, and contribute to the annual monitoring and review of courses.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of students’ attendance, engagement and performance.

  • Attend and contribute to standardisation, moderation and other quality assurance meetings.

    ABOUT YOU

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Maths, Computer Science, Physical Sciences or Engineering. A Master’s qualification is required to teach in the pre-master programmes (Essential). 

  • Teaching qualification (Desirable) 

  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

  • Candidates with further qualifications in the subject area are welcome.

  • Experience teaching Pure Maths, Statistics or Mechanics (Applied Maths) in UK higher, further education or sixth form (Essential) 

  • Experience in teaching MATLAB, Java and Python Programming at levels 3 and/or 6 (Desirable) 

  • Assessment marking experience at a minimum of level 3 (Essential) 

  • Experience working with international students (Desirable) 

  • Ability to develop and update teaching material and preferably experience working within a Virtual Learning Environment (Desirable).
