This position is for a Modelling Developer in the Reinsurance and Enterprise Risk, Pricing & Modelling Systems department which is responsible for the development and maintenance of AXIS’ reinsurance as well as enterprise-wide pricing, modelling and exposure management systems and applications.You will be providing your experience, expertise, critical thinking, and creativity to help evolve the Exposure and Modelling ecosystem in new and innovative ways while collaborating as part of a dynamic and agile team. As part of a global team, you will be working with highly experienced talent across different time zones to enhance existing solutions and develop new ones to deliver and integrate capabilities across Exposure and Modelling. In your role as a developer located in our London office you will closely collaborate with the Cyber and Property Modelling teams on the insurance as well as reinsurance side and play a key role in developing AXIS’ next-generation exposure and modelling tool.What will you do in this role?As a developer within the Exposure and Modelling Development team, you will primarily support the Property and Cyber Modelling business teams.In your role as a team contributor, you will be expected to collaborate effectively with your peers and occasionally take the lead on small projects. In practice this means that you will be expected to:Provide feedback and ask questions to the team leads with regards to overall solution designCollaborate with other adjacent IT teams such as Platform Engineering, DevOps and Data and AnalyticsProactively identify knowledge gaps and seek mentorship and self-learning opportunitiesTake responsibility for code quality and delivery of a feature through all stages from requirement setting, through to testing and final release into productionFurthermore, you will play a key role in continuing to develop a culture of software and data engineering excellence within the Exposure and Modelling Development team. This includesembracing best practices such as submitting detailed pull requests, appropriate testing of work, peer review and thoroughly understanding user requirements.About You:We encourage you to bring your own experience and expertise to the table, so while there are some qualifications and experiences, we need you to have, we are open to discussing how your individual knowledge might lend itself to fulfilling this role and help us achieve our goals.What you need to have:Technical SkillsExperience of software development using c# / python and SQL with the proven ability to independently design and build solutions from the ground upFamiliarity with object oriented and functional programming paradigmsBasic proficiency with GITAn understanding of automation and CI/CD pipelinesExperience with Agile methodologies including scrum and kanbanA test-driven approach to developing softwareBusiness Domain SkillsAn analytical mindset and the ability to reliably translate complex business domain requirements and algorithms into production ready codeThe ability to find ways to quickly and efficiently query and sense check a variety of data types to find and identify anomalies and issuesSoft SkillsA collaborative approach to working is essential, whether at the team level, with our business customers or other teams within ITA natural curiosity that drives constant improvement both in terms of the technologies we use and the business problems that we’re trying to solveWhat we prefer you to have:Technical SkillsBig Data (Databricks, Snowflake)Familiarity with and a passion for architectural design patterns and concepts such as Event Driven, Message Driven, Microservices and ServerlessFront end (web technologies, JavaScript frameworks such as React and Angular)Business Domain KnowledgeA background in specialty insurance and reinsurance, working with exposure data and modelled loss dataAny previous experience that proves a high level of numeracy and an eye for detail when working with dataRole Factors:In this role, you will typically be required to be in the office 2 to 3 days per week.What we offer:You will be eligible for a comprehensive and competitive benefits package which includes medical plans for you and your family, health and wellness programs, retirement plans, tuition reimbursement, paid annual leave, and much more.
