The Research Centre PoliTeSse – Politics and Theories of Sexuality invites scholars to present expressions of interest in applying jointly with Massimo Prearo for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA-PF) on LGBTIQ+ Politics.We welcome proposals that investigate how LGBTIQ+ politics are being reconfigured in the context of current democratic backsliding and backlash against equality. Projects may address a wide range of phenomena, including but not limited to:
- the institutionalization of LGBTIQ+ claims within public policy;
- the transformation of LGBT+, queer and transfeminist activism;
- the contested politics of trans rights;
- the role of anti-gender and gender-critical mobilizations in reshaping political agendas;
- the role of political and institutional actors in co-producing new political opportunity structures;
- the impact of such dynamics on public opinion and electoral behavior;
- the comparative analysis of LGBTIQ+ equality regimes in Europe and beyond.
Hosting research group / SupervisorWe are looking for applicants for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship to be presented with our Research Centre PoliTeSse – Politics and Theories of Sexuality at the Department of Human Sciences of the University of Verona as main host institution.Founded in 2012, PoliTeSse is one of the main Italian research centres entirely dedicated to the analysis of sexual politics. It promotes critical approaches to the study of LGBTIQ+ politics, combining theoretical innovation with empirical analysis across national and international contexts. The Centre engages with key topics such as the institutionalization of queer claims, sexual citizenship, the impact of anti-gender discourse on democratic institutions.PoliTeSse regularly collaborates with national and international research networks, policy actors, civil society organizations, and academic institutions. It offers a dynamic and stimulating environment for scholars interested in contributing to the advancement of critical political research on gender and sexuality.Supervisor: Massimo Prearo, assistant professor and senior researcher in political science and scientific coordinator of Politesse, with expertise in LGBTIQ+ politics, anti-gender mobilizations, political homophobia and transphobia, and movement-institution interactions in contemporary democracies.Selected candidates will be offered both academic and administrative support from the Research Centre PoliTeSse – Politics and Theories of Sexuality and the University of Verona Grant Office with regards to the proposal preparation.ELIGIBILITYCandidates must be eligible according to the criteria established by the 2024 MSCA Postdoctoral fellowship call:
- To have a PhD at the call deadline (September 10, 2025)
- To have up to 8 years research experience after PhD
- To be citizens of an EU State or of an Associated Country or long-term resident in Europe (only for Global Fellowship)
- Not to have resided or carried their main activity in Italy for more than 12 in the 36 months before call deadline (September 10, 2025) – for European Fellowship
- Not to have resided or carried their main activity in the country of the Host Institution in the third country for more than 12 in the 36 months before call deadline (September 10, 2025) – for a Global Fellowship.
