This is a fixed term maternity cover with a contract duration of 12 months.

International Medical Corps UK provides emergency relief to those struck by disaster no matter where they are, no matter what the conditions, working with them to recover, rebuild and gain the skills and tools required for self reliance.

International Medical Corps (IMC) and International Medical Corps UK (IMC UK) with headquarters in the United States and the United Kingdom respectively, work collaborate to maximize resources for the delivery of appropriate relief and development activities. International Medical Corps (IMC) is an US-registered independent affiliate organization of International Medical Corps UK (IMC UK), with which IMC UK shares the same name and charitable objectives and mission.

JOB SUMMARY: Perform writing, editing and media-outreach activities to support the Communications team in highlighting the work of International Medical Corps, strengthening the organisation brand across external audiences, including in Europe and the Middle East. The role will also create content that meets visibility requirements as set by donors.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the guidance of the Director, Global Communications, manage and maintain visibility requirements across International Medical Corps (including International Medical Corps UK and International Medical Corps Croatia) programmes:

  • Provide editorial support for external and internal communications efforts, working closely with Global Communications staff and with staff throughout the organization to craft and distribute timely information on a regular basis about the organization’s achievements, initiatives and priorities;
  • Participate in public outreach and awareness initiatives, including media relations and outreach (cultivating relationships with reporters, pitching stories, responding to requests, etc.); leverage media-relations database to expand contacts, maintain information on existing contacts and report on interactions with contacts;
  • Support the development of content for the organization’s websites, blogs and social media channels;
  • Provide written and other content to meet deadline-driven visibility requirements on donor-financed projects
  • Act as an internal copywriter for production of marketing materials, collateral, internal templates and ad-hoc projects as directed;
  • Support executive communications efforts, including speeches, talking points and presentations;
  • Contribute to and help maintain editorial style guidelines; provide editorial guidance, training and support to other departments and field staff;
  • Monitor internal and external sources to build subject-matter expertise; develop relationships with relevant staff throughout the organization; provide counsel on communications priorities;

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Typically, a Bachelor’s degree in related area. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Typically, 3+ years of relevant experience in similar role
  • A superior knowledge of the media environment and editorial procedures
  • Photography and video skills a plus
  • Advanced writing ability and an understanding of the techniques employed in content creation and distribution
  • Tested project-management skills and the capability to prioritise tasks under tight deadlines
  • Ability to effectively analyse complex problems;
  • Solid computer skills, including the Microsoft Office suite; familiarity with the design and production process;
  • Experience working for an NGO and/or humanitarian-aid agency;
  • Demonstrable understanding of the organisation’s priorities and goals;
  • Ability to work successfully and effectively as part of a team, as well as independently, in a multicultural and participatory environment.
  • Ability to travel internationally when required;
  • Fluency in English, spoken and written. Additional language skills a plus.
