At the Department of Communication and Psychology, the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, Aalborg University, one or more position as either Assistant- or Associate Professor in music will be open for appointment 1st of August 2025, or as soon as possible after this date.JobbeskrivelseIf the applicant is employed as Assistant Professor, the employment will be a fixed term(4 years), full-time position. If the applicant is employed as Associate Professor, the position will be a fixed full-time position. Both positions include research and teaching activities.The position is primarily affiliated with the section Art, Aesthetics and Health?(AAH).The Art, Aesthetics& Health section constitutes an interdisciplinary group of scholars investigating art forms, aesthetic experiences and their meaning, value and interaction with people and society, especially in relation to health, technology, and sustainability.The Assistant Professor or Associate Professor will be associated with a research group in the Department of Communication and Psychology. The music program’s research group conducts sound and music research focusing on sound and music cognition, music technology, listening, music analysis, sound branding, music entrepreneurship, and music production. Successful applicants are expected to play a key role in the research group’s future development. We welcome innovative and ambitious research agendas.Applicants must demonstrate recognized research contributions to the field of musicology and be capable of teaching several modules within the music program.The primary teaching responsibilities will include one or more of the following subject areas: music and sound production, music and sound analysis, music history, cultural theory, and music entrepreneurship. Additionally, applicants may possess teaching qualifications in anthropological and sociological methods, improvisation and interactivity, acoustics and psychoacoustics, music arrangement and performance, music pedagogy, and music aesthetics.The applicant should be able to link theory and practice in teaching.Aalborg University’s music program is part of the Department of Communication and Psychology. The applicant will primarily teach within the music program, which offers two bachelor’s tracks—’General Music’ and’Popular Music and Sound Production’—and single and joint master’s programs.The applicant is expected to actively participate in the daily planning and development of the music program, be present on the Aalborg campus, and engage in interdisciplinary activities and possibly also teaching in other programs at the department.About teachingSuccessful applicants are expected to deliver high-quality teaching, supervision, and examinations as required across the various modules in the Music program.Applicants should document:

  • Experience, skills, and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to deliver high-quality teaching using various pedagogical approaches, including problem-based learning, project supervision, group work, interactive seminars, and lectures.
  • Ability to teach, supervise, and assess written and oral work in Danish. The successful applicant must be able to teach in English and Danish. International applicants are expected to learn Danish.
  • Aalborg University works with a problem-based learning model(PBL). Documented experience with PBL is not mandatory, although it is advantageous. If you have not completed a PBL course, you must do so within your first year of employment.

A position as assistant professor is a fixed-term training position which includes an obligation to carry our research and teaching activities. To a limited extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University. The appointment includes a requirement to attend a course in university pedagogy for assistant professors organised by the University.The employment as assistant professor must not exceed a total period of four years at the same institution(a maximum of six years at assistant professor level at AAU and a maximum of eight years at assistant professor level in Denmark).Qualification requirements
The formal qualification requirement for at position as assistant professor is a PhD degree or academic qualifications at PhD level.Associate professor
A position as associate professor is a permanent appointment which included an obligation to carry our research and teaching activities. To some extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University.Qualification requirements
The formal qualification requirement for the position as associate professor is research qualifications corresponding to the level achieved from a successful employment period as an assistant professor/researcher, or achieved otherwise. The applicant must document scientific production at an international level. Furthermore, it is presupposed that the applicants have received supervision and pedagogical upgrading and a positive written evaluation of teaching qualifications.Moreover it will be an advantage, but not a prerequisite, that applicants for the position as associate professor have experienace with Problem Based Learning(PBL) which is Aalborg University’s teaching philosophy.The application
