Are you looking for an exciting and unique leadership opportunity in the field of medical education?

We are seeking a highly-motivated and experienced individual to join us as the Prevention and Healthcare Delivery Leadat Cumbria School of Medicine.

The Pears Cumbria School of Medicine is an entirely new venture between Imperial College London and the University of Cumbria with the specific purpose of helping to address health inequality in the UK.  The school will be based at the Carlisle campus and is expected to open in 2025. Our vision is to be collaborative and inclusive, innovative and research-informed.  We aim to produce skilled clinicians who are adaptable and focused on the delivery of safe and sustainable, high-quality and person-centred care to improve health outcomes for the people of Cumbria. The programme will equip students with generalist skills and the ability to adapt and apply knowledge to different environments, circumstances and challenges.

The Prevention and Healthcare Delivery (PHD) modules span the first two four years of the programme and includes a community project. As PCSMLead for Prevention and Healthcare Delivery, you will be part of the academic leadership team and provide recognised expertise and strategic leadership on the content, delivery format and assessment strategy for these modules.

This is an exciting opportunity for Public Health consultants or clinicians with an interest in population health who are looking to broaden their experience in medical education through engagement with this innovative and transformational project.  You will be based at the Fusehill Street campus in Carlisle and will work closely with academics and in London and Cumbria.

Duties and responsibilities

This is a senior academic role within the school with influence and responsibility for shaping the curriculum and our approach to teaching and learning. You will:

  • Manage and lead the development and delivery of the PHD curriculum, learning and assessment materials for years 1 and 2.
  • Develop strategic links with the local Public Health, health and social care teams in Cumbria.
  • Work closely with academic colleagues across the programme to develop an integrated curriculum student journey, with a focus on years 1 and 2.

Essential requirements

You will have a primary medical, health professional or public health related degree and membership of the Faculty of Public Health or Royal College of General Practitioners or another medical Royal College.  You will also have full registration and be on the specialist register/general practice register with the General Medical Council or, full registration as a specialist on the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR).  You experience of applying knowledge acquired from scholarship to teaching, curriculum and/or assessment will have specialist knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • Social Sciences
  • Public Health, Promotion & Prevention​
  • Research Skills
  • Models of Healthcare
  • Digital Healthcare

Further information

This is a 0.2FTE, 24-month post based in Carlisle, with some travel within Cumbria expected.  

This position is available on a secondment basis, to applicants from Imperial College and University of Cumbria.

Salary information:

  • If a successful candidate is based in London, they will be paid according to Imperial College London pay scale.
  • If they are on Imperial College contract and based in Cumbria, they will be paid according to Imperial College Outside London pay scales (Salaries vacanciesin.eu Administration and support services vacanciesin.eu Imperial College London ).
  • If they are on University of Cumbria contract, they will be paid according to local pay scale.
