Offer DescriptionThe Department of Electronics-ICT in the Faculty of Applied Engineering of the University of Antwerp is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of artificial intelligence for renewable energy.This PhD opportunity within the research group Modelling for Sustainability (M4S) offers you the chance to contribute to climate change mitigation by developing novel methods for forecasting and projecting renewable energy sources, paving the way for a more sustainable future.Position

• You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis focusing on designing and developing AI methods (physics-informed and data-driven) for forecasting and projecting renewable energy sources in a changing climate.
• You will publish scientific articles related to the research project and present results at international conferences and meetings.
• You contribute to national and international research projects in collaboration with key players in the energy industry.
• You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for a maximum of 2 hours per week.
• You will supervise bachelor and master students.

Profile

• You hold (obtained no earlier than 1 March 2023), or will have obtained by the time you start work, a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.
• You have achieved a grade of at least distinction/cum laude/honors/onderscheiding for your Master’s degree.
• Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s

• You are fluent in Python, machine learning, and deep-learning tools (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• You can speak and write fluently in English.

• Having published in high-ranking conferences and journals in the field is an advantage.
• You are well-organized, have strong prioritization skills, consistently deliver on time, and are capable of autonomously planning and executing tasks.

• We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of 1 year. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed for another three years.
