Job description

about the roleYour role is to work on a PhD entitled “Resource optimization in satellite-integrated networks”Global context and problematic of the subjectThe extension of coverage with terrestrial networks (TN) is both an economic and technological obstacle. On the other hand, non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) have the capacity to provide cost-effective, ubiquitous and high-capacity connectivity in future networks. NTN refers to networks based on space vehicles or an airborne platform for radio transmission. The integration of NTNs with TN is considered essential for the overall penetration of future global 5G/6G systems. In an integrated system, with limited resources, interference must be avoided between TN-NTN to protect our terrestrial network. On the other hand, we need to optimize the system so that the performances 1+1
2 . Dynamic and intelligent allocation of radio resources between terrestrial networks and satellites can help optimize limited resources, control interference from satellite communication to MNOs’ terrestrial networks, and satisfy a wide range of service requests from different customers. The main scientific objective of the PhD :
· Deduce the fundamental limitations of integrated NTN-TN systems
· Efficient transmitter and receiver designs to mitigate interference and improve throughput
· Dynamic and intelligent allocation of radio resources (power control, PRB, frequencies, satellite beam bandwidth, etc.) to adapt to various use cases with different KPIs in an extremely complex and highly dynamic system such as integrated TN-NTNThe main scientific or technical obstacles to be dealt with:1-Need of satellite datasets for training phase in AI algorithms
2-Channel modeling adapted to satellite networks
3-Compared with terrestrial networks, NTN has a number of special characteristics, such as longer propagation delay, greater Doppler effect, frequent handovers, limited on-board resources, etc. These are new constraints to be integrated into the optimization process. These are new constraints that need to be integrated into the optimization process. Taking performance and quality of service into account
4-Definition of KPIs specific to NTN to optimize and compare performance in a dynamic environment.about youSkills (scientific and technical) and personal qualities required by the position :o Extensive expertise in wireless networks (PHY, MAC layers and radio resource management) and in mathematics (optimization, queuing theory)o Very good oral and written communication skills in Englisho Expertise in simulation and computer language (notably Matlab)o Experience in research desired and associated techniques (work organization, reports, documentation, autonomy, creativity)Required training (master, engineering degree, doctorate, scientific and technical field, etc.)o Master in Telecommunications, Networks or Digital Communications, Operational Researcho Or engineering degreeadditional informationo An innovative field in full revolution, the rapid growth of satellite technologyo Projects involving all operators including the satellite industryo A team having to take up the challenge of the future architecture of mobile networkso The opportunity to work on advanced techniques related to 5G and 6Go The opportunity to develop original mathematical approaches for concrete and innovative use in networkso The possibility of being in interaction with both the industrial world and the academic world and of being a bridge between these two environmentso Possible participation in regional, national, or European collaborative projectsThe possibility of participating in prestigious international conferencesdepartmentOrange Innovation brings together the research and innovation activities and expertise of the Group’s entities and countries.
