Job description
Quantum-enriched Raman spectroscopy for precise and rapid biomedical diagnostics. To implement and test performance of instrumentation based on atomistic simulations of cavity enriched Raman Spectroscopy of biorelevant molecules to advance sensing of blood phenotypes.Join us at Copenhagen University Hospital (CUH, Rigshospitalet) in the Department of Clinical Immunology and at DTU Health Technology in collaboration with DTU Physics, to implement and test performance of instrumentation based on atomistic simulations of cavity enriched Raman Spectroscopy of biorelevant molecules to advance sensing of blood phenotypes. Practical skills in implementing the design to Raman instrumentation, and testing the performance, are required.DescriptionWe are seeking a motivated PhD student to implement in instrumentation atomistic and electromagnetic simulations to realizing the design a novel quantum optical biosensor for the clinical scale rapid detection of blood phenotypes. Check our website .About the Project
You will drive the practical development and testing of a recently funded project from the Novo Nordisk Foundation entitled “Quantum-enriched Raman spectroscopy for precise and rapid biomedical diagnostics”. You will in practice leverage the strong coupling between light in infrared optical cavities and biorelevant molecules to manipulate spectroscopic Raman signatures needed for the efficient identification of blood traits. You will implement the instrumentation and evaluate the performance in biomedical practice of the tools designed by other group members to simulate realistically by combining state-of-the-art atomistic methods with the numerical solution for electromagnetic fields in optical cavities. As a PhD student at CUH and DTU, you will:
- Make use of results from design and development of advanced atomistic simulation methodologies coupled to electromagnetic calculations for studying interacting light-matter systems.
- Collaborate closely with the group’s theoretical postdoc and senior researchers (co-supervisor professor Søren Raza, Simone Latini) within Raman spectroscopy instrumentation (co-supervisor Anders Kristensen) and in selecting clinically relevant blood phenotypes and reference data (Morten Hanefeld Dziegiel) to be used for evaluation and demonstration of performance.
This position provides an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of interdisciplinary research, combining theory, computational techniques, and clinical needs to make an impact in the future exploitation of quantum technologies for biomedical sensors of phenotypes. What we are looking for:
- A motivated, dedicated researcher capable of working collaboratively within a team.
- Possess experience in practical physics, especially in building and using instrumentation for Raman spectroscopy,
- Proficiency in scientific and instrumentation programming (preferably Python and Fortran) and comfortable working with scientific and instrumentation software.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills (in English) and the ability to present and discuss scientific ideas effectively.
Who you will be working with
You will be working, at the department of clinical Immunology (Blood bank, CUH) with supervisor professor Morten Hanefeld Dziegiel, at DTU Health Technology with co-supervisor professor Anders Kristensen, at DTU physics with Assistant Professor Simone Latini and Associate Professor Søren Raza within the 2DPHYS section. You will also benefit from the DTU physics’ tight connections to the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter in Hamburg, Germany and you will be able to participate in the activities of a newly funded European network – SPARKLE – focused on polaritonics for quantum technologies. You can read more about SPARKLE (https://www.sparkle-dn.eu/network).We offer
