Research priority areas
Within the Economics academic group we are keen to receive PhD research proposals in the following areas:
- Macroeconomics: Monetary Policy, Economic Development
- Financial Economics and Financial Technology
- Microeconomics: Industrial Economics, Productivity Analysis, Energy and Environmental, Behavioural Economics
- International Economics: International Money and Finance, Exchange Rates, International Trade, Foreign Direct Investment, Globalisation.
Alternatively, you can develop your research proposal around one of the proposed PhD project ideas in the Economics group .
Whether you choose a research priority area or a proposed research project, your research proposal needs to be aligned with Loughborough Business School’s Progress with Purpose vision and strategy that focuses on broader societal issues and enables inclusive, interdisciplinary and purpose-led research and innovation.

Entry requirements
At least a 2:1 honours degree (or international equivalent) with a UK master’s degree (with average programme mark of no less than 65%) or international equivalent.
English language requirements
IELTS band 7.0 or above with not less than 7.0 in each component.
Funding
The studentship is for 3 years and provides a minimum tax free stipend of £18,622 per annum for the duration of the studentship plus University tuition fees.
Please note that studentships will be awarded on a competitive basis to applicants who have applied within the School. Funding decisions will not be confirmed until early 2024.
