PhD Studentship in Computer Science: Trusted Edge-Cloud Continuum

Award Summary

100% Home fees covered and a minimum tax-free annual living allowance £18,622 (2023-24 UKRI rate)

Overview

In the era of cloud computing, the emergence of the trusted edge-cloud continuum has opened new frontiers in secure and efficient data processing. This paradigm combines the power of edge devices and cloud resources to enable real-time data analysis and decision-making while preserving data privacy and security. However, this convergence also presents a set of pressing research challenges including data confidentiality and integrity.

The proposed research aims to develop a comprehensive framework for data confidentiality and integrity within the trusted edge-cloud continuum, leveraging Trusted Platform Module (TPM), Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX), and ARM TrustZone as key components. These trusted execution environments, in conjunction with advanced encryption and access control methods, provide a robust foundation for safeguarding sensitive information during data transfers and ensuring the authenticity and integrity of exchanged data, all while optimising resource efficiency and enhancing system security.
