This group comprises teachers and researchers whose work draws on multiple disciplines, including information systems, economics, sociology, psychology, anthropology and political science. The group is committed to advancing world-class management scholarship and developing ideas to help managers better understand some of the most complex problems of International Business, Strategy and Innovation.

Within the International Business, Strategy and Innovation academic group, we are keen to receive PhD research proposals in innovation, strategic collaboration, cross-border collaboration, co-creation, family firms, ethics and digital ethics, entrepreneurship and digital entrepreneurship and other IBSI faculty profiles. 

Some examples are, but not limited to:

  • Open Strategy, Digital Strategy, the study of emerging technologies in strategic management, and new strategies for digital transformation.
  • Entrepreneurship in Emerging Markets/Internationalisation Strategies
  • Culture-strategy Nexus in Global Organisations
  • Social Innovations and Entrepreneurship/Digital Innovations and Development
  • Strategy and Performance in Complex Environments

Entry requirements

At least a 2:1 honours degree (or international equivalent) with a UK master’s degree (with average programme mark of no less than 65%) or international equivalent.

English language requirements

IELTS band 7.0 or above with not less than 7.0 in each component.

Funding

The studentship is for 3 years and provides a minimum tax free stipend of £18,622 per annum for the duration of the studentship plus University tuition fees.

Please note that studentships will be awarded on a competitive basis to applicants who have applied within the School. Funding decisions will not be confirmed until early 2024.

  • Put together your research proposal (between 2500 to 3000 words including references)
  • Share your research proposal with the identified supervisor(s) and confirm they are willing to be named in support of your application. You are also encouraged to ask for feedback to develop your research proposal.
  • Submit your formal application online via the above ‘Apply’ button. Under programme name, select ‘Business School’. Please quote the advertised reference number ‘LB24-IBSI’ in your application. Please upload with your application a research proposal, copies of your transcripts/certificates, English language certificate and contact details of two academic references, one of which must be from your most recent degree.
