Pine Marten Field Officer (Exmoor)

Devon Wildlife Trust

Do you want to play a critical role in the reintroduction of one of Britain’s rarest mammals to
South West England?

Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT) is Devon’s leading wildlife conservation charity, with over 36,000
members, 350 regular volunteers, 100 staff and 63 nature reserves. We are one of the larger
locally based organisations that collectively make up The Wildlife Trusts. DWT has pioneered
the reintroduction of beavers in England and the restoration of internationally rare habitats
like Culm Grassland.

An opportunity has arisen to join the Two Moors Pine Marten Project as our Field Officer for
Exmoor. The Field Officer, supported by a team of species reintroduction and conservation
experts, will be integral to the successful reintroduction of pine martens into the wild in
England. This is a varied and active role involving landowner liaison, ecological surveys,
coordinating and delivering training, managing trainees and volunteers and communication with
stakeholders.

The reintroduction of pine martens has the potential to polarise views from different
communities of interest. The postholder will be required to navigate these complexities with
authority, confidence and professionalism. Preparing release sites and supporting pine marten
translocation will require the post holder to have good problem-solving skills and ecological
expertise to establish strong working relationships.

The project has been made possible to date with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund
and with thanks to the National Lottery players, with a decision on Delivery Phase funding
expected by the end of March 2024.

In return for your hard work and dedication you’ll enjoy a wide range of benefits including:

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and additional paid time off during the Christmas
    shut down period
  • Agile working arrangements including home working
  • Flexitime system
  • Salary progression (subject to satisfactory performance)
  • Contributory pension scheme (conditions apply)
  • Death in Service cover
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Training and development opportunities

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment until 31 March 2027, initially contractually
located at Cricklepit Mill with scope for working at partner offices across Exmoor.

Interviews are being held on Tuesday 30 April.

We welcome candidates of all backgrounds and abilities who meet the essential criteria for this
role. We are an inclusive organisation that is seeking to involve more diverse audiences in our
work.
