Offer DescriptionApplications are invited for a temporary post of a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science.Promising new drugs for immunotherapy are so-called `innate immune checkpoint inhibitors’ that disrupt inhibitory `don’t eat me’ signals on macrophages, leading to enhanced cancer cell phagocytosis. The cancer cell-macrophage interaction is mediated by two proteins, namely CD47 and SIRP-alpha. Evidence suggests that disruption of this interaction can significantly enhance macrophage ability to engulf and destroy cancer cells and is therefore an exciting therapeutic avenue to follow. This project, in collaboration with the immunobiology laboratory of Professor Ulla Knaus, will involve the development of a microscopy-based high-content drug screen to identify candidate molecules that disrupt the cellular localisation of SIRP-alpha in primary macrophages.This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.Salary Range: €44,847 – €47,412 per annum
