Offer Description

In urban environments, the use of permeable devices to re-infiltrate stormwater raises a number of questions about the impact of such practices on groundwater. Runoff water carries a wide range of pollutants (PAHs, heavy metals, pesticides, etc.) from the catchment area (roofs, roads, parking lots, sidewalks, etc.), which can be transferred to the unsaturated zone and ultimately reach the water table (groundwater). In this context, the post-doct recruited will be in charge of monitoring systems (i.e. passive chemical catchers and multiparameter probes) installed in several stormwater infiltration basins. The person recruited will also be responsible (1) for the laboratory breeding of sentinel organisms (incubated in groundwater sampled beneath the infiltration structures), (2) for measuring physiological biomarkers of the impact of urban pollutants on these organisms, (3) for the statistical analyse of the data obtained, and finally (4) for writing the associated reports and publications.

– Installation of monitoring systems in infiltration basins.
– Organization of field campaigns.
– Laboratory assays of physiological biomarkers.
– Statistical treatment of physico-chemical and physiological data.
– Reports and publications.
– Organize and lead exchanges with partners.
– Co-management of a research program.

– LEHNA (UMR 5023) is a french research laboratory in Ecology of Natural and Man-Impacted Hydrosystems, comprising 6 research teams and 4 thematic clusters and employing around 110 people. It is located on two sites (ENTPE campus in Vaulx-en-Velin, and Lyon Tech-La Doua campus in Villeurbanne, France). The present position is based on the Lyon Tech-La Doua campus (E3S team).
– Specialized in the ecology of groundwater hydrosystems, the E3S team is part of the Hydrology Field Observatory (OTHU). Within this structure, E3S is particularly interested in the response of groundwater to the infiltration of rainwater runoff in urban environments.
