Job description

Job Category: VIP BJob Description:If you are establishing your career as a scientist and you are looking for the best possible foundation for fulfilling your dreams and ambitions, it is right here in front of you. At DTU Civil and Mechanical Engineering, you will break new ground at the absolute forefront of what is possible and work with machinery dynamics and magnetic bearing technology with a focus on sustainable gas turbines for power generation in maritime applications.Responsibilities and qualifications
You will be part of the MARPOWER project funded by the which aims to design and test a gas turbine capable of running on sustainable fuels for power generation in maritime applications. The MARPOWER consortium is a collaborative effort designed to leverage the expertise of various stakeholders in the maritime transport value chain. Comprising 11 entities from six European countries (Finland, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain), the partnership is established based on principles of excellence, commitment, and the capacity to achieve project objectives.Your focus will be on helping with the design of magnetic bearings considering the challenges imposed by the fact that the turbine will not be stationary. It means a good background in Rotordynamics and Experimental Mechanics, especially with magnetic bearings is fundamental. Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Develop multiphysical mathematical models of magnetic bearings to predict their performance, considering electromagnetism, heat transfer, rotordynamics, and control theory.
  • Plan, design, and carry out laboratory experiments
  • Perform data acquisition and signal processing
  • Collaborate and communicate with both academic and industrial partners
  • Co-supervise BSc and MSc student projects

Qualifications
Because of the multidisciplinary nature of the project, you are expected to possess strong fundamental engineering competencies. You must be able to handle theoretical, numerical, as well as experimental tasks. As a candidate, you are expected to have:

  • Knowledge and experience with numerical and mathematical modeling of magnetic bearings and electromagnetism, heat transfer and control theory
  • Knowledge and/or experience with laboratory, field experiments and gas turbines
  • International experience is preferred
  • Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks and to be a part of a large dynamic group,
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken are required

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). We offer
