Job Description:A 2-year postdoctoral position in bio-inspired wet adhesion is available at the Department of Chemistry, Technical University of Denmark in the group of Polymers and Functional Interfaces headed by Professor Esben Thormann. The project is focus on bio-inspired wet adhesion for potential tissue-repair applications and will have a commercial outlook. The position is associated to the new skin technology platform, “SkinHub”, supported by the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation. The position is available from 1 August 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.Responsibilities and qualifications
The main responsibilities of the chosen candidates will be to: (1) Select, test and optimize new bio-inspired adhesive formulations for (wet) tissue adhesion; (2) develop new lab-based test methods for wet adhesion performance; (3) perform lab-based tissue-adhesion tests; (4) establish collaborations with relevant partners for in-vivo studies; (5) contribute to applications for additional proof-of-concept and startup funding; (6) take part in planning for potential commercialization.

  • Candidates should have (or being close to achieve) a PhD degree in physical chemistry, polymer science or similar, and with a strong background in experimental research.
  • A strong interest in interdisciplinary research.
  • A desire to work across different laboratory and with different partners.
  • A strong collaborative mind-set.
  • A dream of bringing research from the lab to the market.
  • Independence and good communication skills.

In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:

  • Relevance of background experience.
  • Strong personal interest in both basic and applied research.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and good communication skills.
