Job description

Job Description:The Department of Molecular Medicine at the University of Southern Denmark is seeking a highly motivated and independent postdoctoral researcher with a background in computational biology to join our cutting-edge research efforts in mucosal immunology. The successful candidate will investigate how commensal protozoa and other intestinal eukaryotes influence barrier immunity in the context of human health and disease. The project is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and offers an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to lead a research project at the absolute forefront of biomedical research. The full-time position is available in the laboratory of Associate Professor Jesper B. Moeller from April 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter, for an initial period of 1 year, with the possibility of extension for two more years.Key Responsibilities

  • Lead an exciting project focusing on commensal protozoa in human health and disease.
  • Plan, oversee, and carry out wet-lab experiments (in vivo & in vitro) in collaboration with other members of the research group.
  • Independently implement and employ state-of-the-art bioinformatics to analyze complex computational datasets (RNA-Seq, scRNA-Seq, etc.).
  • Initiate and maintain collaborations with both local and international research partners
  • Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students associated with the study.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
  • Actively contribute to the local research environment and engage in teaching as required.

Our expectations

  • A PhD in Life Sciences (Computational Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or related field).
  • A genuine interest in mucosal immunology and how host-microbe interactions at the barrier surfaces influence human health.
  • A background in computational biology with strong programming skills, supported by scientific publications.
  • Knowledge and hands-on expertise with wet-lab work, including sample preparations and sequencing.
  • Preferably experience with animal models (holding a FELASA B Certificate is advantageous).
  • Preferably experience with handling human material and clinical data.

What we offer

  • An exciting postdoc position in an international and supportive research environment, bridging basic and clinical research.
  • Modern laboratories with easy access to state-of-the-art equipment and methodologies for sequencing, cell analyses, and imaging.
  • Comprehensive training in cutting-edge technologies, as well as research management and networking.
  • A flexible work organization and support of individual career development.

About the Moeller LabThe Moeller Lab’s main research interests focus on understanding the intricate and highly complex interactions between microbes residing in the gut and the human body. Rooted in animal models of intestinal disease combined with manipulation of the gut microbiota, members of the Moeller lab employ cutting-edge technologies such as sequencing, high-parameter flow cytometry, and advanced imaging methodologies to interrogate the functional and mechanistic impact of gut microbes on human health and disease.Further InformationFor inquiries, please contact Associate Professor Jesper B.
