The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Postdoc position in the field of Optical Imaging and Alzheimer’s disease as per 1 October 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 2-years.The department of Biomedicine prioritises diversity and a good work environment, as this is a prerequisite for groundbreaking research. You can read more about the department and about the faculty .About the research project You are expected to be join the project Aurora that aims to unravel the earliest stages of Alzheimer’s disease by applying in-vivo optical imaging in animal models of the disease. By investigating vascular and neuronal disturbances that occur before amyloid-beta plaque formation. The project aims to identify new biomarkers and therapeutic targets. The goal is to pave the way for early diagnosis and prevention, offering hope to those at risk of this devastating disease.Your job responsibilities As Postdoc, your position is primarily research-based but may also involve teaching assignments. You will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with colleagues on your project, where you will receive supervision and guidance.Your main tasks will consist of:
- Independent research of high international quality, including publication.
- Developing and optimising surgical, animal handling and imaging protocols for longitudinal two-photon and wide-field optical imaging to capture cerebrovascular and neuronal dynamics in awake and anaesthetised Alzheimer’s models.
- Processing and analysing imaging datasets using custom scripts in MATLAB and/or Python.
- Integrating imaging with complementary techniques, such as electrophysiology, optogenetic stimulation, or behavioural assays, in close collaboration with other lab members.
- Documenting methods and results in lab notebooks, writing scientific manuscripts, preparing figures, and drafting conference abstracts.
- Supervising and training master’s/PhD students or visiting fellows in in-vivo imaging techniques and data analysis.
- Contributing to grant proposals and project planning.
You will report to the Eugenio Gutiérrez.Your competences You hold a PhD in a relevant discipline, for example, Neuroscience, Biophysics or Biomedical Sciences. You have experience performing rodent-based neuroscience studies, including surgical skills for optical imaging preparation, awake optical imaging, optogenetic stimulation of neurons, viral transfection in brain cortex, and a record of high-quality scientific publications appropriate for your career level.As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.
