Offer Description

PROTAVIC INTERNATIONAL is developing, manufacturing and selling resins and adhesives for the electronic industry. In particular, PROTAVIC INTERNATIONAL offers groundbreaking technologies used in the assembly process of electronic micro-modules. The developed products are used in millions modules every day for banking, telecommunication and identification applications. To date, this technology relies on the UV curing of epoxy resins that originate from petro-based resources. The UV-curing process presents advantages to cure within a few second under UV irradiation. In the search for a more environmentally friendly technology and the obtention of greener photoinduced materials, PROTAVIC INTERNATIONAL, in collaboration with the department of MacroMolecular Chemistry and Materials (C3M) of ICGM, wishes to explore the replacement of UV-curable epoxy resins with UV-curable bio-based epoxy binders. Accordingly, the first goal of the project will be to establish a list of bio-based epoxy compounds available at industrial scale and suitable for UV-curing. Then formulations with appropriate viscosity will be established and their curing under UV-irradiation studied. Finally, photo-cured materials will be characterized (adhesion, Tg, shore hardness…)

– Literature review on biobased epoxy resins and their applications.
– Characterization of the petro-based epoxy resin commercialized by PROTAVIC.
– Examination of available industrial biobased epoxy resins derived from renewable sources and evaluation of their chemical (UV-curing) and physical properties (viscosity, adhesion, Tg…) relevant to the application.
-formulation of a photosensitive resin from biosourced epoxy and study of their photocrosslinking.
-characterization of the properties of the photocrosslinked resin

The recruited person will work in the MacroMolecular Chemistry and Materials department of the Charles Gerhardt Montpellier Institute under the supervision of Dr Julien Pinaud and Dr Sylvain Caillol. The work will take place in the new Balard Chimie building. The person will have access to the various equipments of the ICGM characterization platform.
