Job description

Job Description:We are inviting applications for one or two Postdoc positions starting in the spring of 2025. Dive into the exciting field of shape and topology optimization at the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark ( ).The project is funded through the Villum Investigator Project AMSTRAD granted by the Villum Foundation.AMSTRAD is a six-year research project aimed at developing advanced numerical inverse design tools that allow for systematic investigation and design of materials and structures with disorder and defects, either by design or as introduced by non-perfect manufacturing processes. The research projects involve modelling and design of non-linear Multiphysics systems and structures as well as realization using additive manufacturing techniques and experiments.Responsibilities and qualifications
The project involves extensive development and implementation of numerical algorithms for shape and topology optimization. Hence, it is a prerequisite that candidates can document extensive experience with non-linear and possibly multi-physics finite element programming to receive full consideration. Preference will be given to candidates with documented experience in several of the following areas: computational solid mechanics; finite element methods; Multiphysics modeling, numerical optimization methods; uncertainty quantification; robust shape and/or topology optimization. We envision that:

  • You have an open mind and can think creatively in mathematical, mechanical and programming contexts
  • You are eager to elaborate on the newest research results, improve the ideas, and test them by implementation
  • Your research will include extending and contributing to various in-house codes, including the development of our parallel computing framework based on the PETSc library using the c++ computing language as well as interactive design platforms on mobile devices
  • You know and have in-depth experience within topology optimization and nonlinear finite element analysis and are committed to improving state-of-the-art
  • You preferably have insights into uncertainty modelling and modelling of random materials and structures

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). We offer
DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is min. 1 year. You can read more about .Further information
Further information may be obtained from Professor Ole Sigmund, e-mail: .You can read more about Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at .If you are applying from abroad, you may find useful information on working in Denmark and at DTU at .Application procedure
Your complete online application must be submitted no later than 4 January 2025 (23:59 Danish time). Applications must be submitted as one PDF file containing all materials to be given consideration. To apply, please open the link “Apply now”, fill out the online application form, and attach all your materials in English in one PDF file. The file must include:

  • Application (cover letter)
  • CV
  • Academic Diplomas (MSc/PhD – in English)
  • List of publications

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, disability, race, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply. As DTU works with research in critical technology, which is subject to special rules for security and export control, open-source background checks may be conducted on qualified candidates for the position.DTU Civil and Mechanical Engineering develops and utilizes science and technical knowledge for the benefit of society and sustainable development. We undertake research, education, innovation, and scientific advice of the highest quality within building design and processes, building construction and safety, building energy and installation, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, materials technology, manufacturing engineering, engineering design and thermal energy systems.Technology for people
DTU develops technology for people. With our international elite research and study programmes, we are helping to create a better world and to solve the global challenges formulated in the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Hans Christian Ørsted founded DTU in 1829 with a clear mission to develop and create value using science and engineering to benefit society. That mission lives on today.
