Job description

Context & Job descriptionWithin the framework of a collaboration with CERN on Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee) feasibility studies, you will investigate the performance of the Local Chromaticity Correction optics (LCC) proposal against errors and demonstrate that FCC-ee can be commissioned and operated with the LCC optics. As part of this work, you will develop numerical tools and correction methods to support these investigations and validate them on the ESRF-EBS storage ring.Your tasks will be the following:· Perform beam dynamics simulations to characterize the dynamic aperture (DA) and momentum aperture (MA) of the FCC-ee collider and perform non-linear optimizations to maximize them;· Develop correction schemes and tuning tools and algorithms to provide efficient commissioning and robust operation and validate them on the ESRF-EBS storage ring;· Evaluate LCC optics performances after commissioning-like sequences of tuning in the presence of realistic errors such as short and long range alignment errors and magnetic errors with particular attention to the magnets close to the interaction points. Define a table of tolerated errors for the LCC optics;· Develop the necessary simulation tools based on existing python codes used at ESRF such as pyAT or pySC;· Publish the results in accelerator physics related journals and conference proceeding. You will be requested to attend in person collaboration meetings at CERN on a regular basis and part of your work could be carried out in shifts, following ESRF regulations.Further information may be obtained from Simone Liuzzo (+33 4 76 88 26 56, [email protected]) or Simon White (+33 4 76 88 19 54, [email protected])Expected profile· PhD in Physics or related discipline obtained less than three years ago· A strong background in accelerator physics, knowledge of lattice design codes (Accelerator toolbox, Xsuite, MADX…)· Good programming skills in Python are required· Team work capability and good communication skills are essential· Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF)Working conditionsThe salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.Do you recognize yourself in this description?
