Job description
The Danish Cancer Society is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position in the Cell Death and Metabolism Group at the Danish Cancer InstituteAbout us
The Danish Cancer Society has its own research centre of 23 research groups and several core facilities, with around 250 researchers dedicated to basic, translational and epidemiological cancer research, at an internationally highly competitive level. The Cell Death and Metabolism Group headed by Professor Jäättelä is known for its original discoveries in the fields of lysosomes, cell death, autophagy and heat shock protein, its role in the development of advanced technologies, and its ability to translate biological findings to the clinics. While the present project focuses on the composition of lysosomal membranes, the group has a broad expertise in cancer cell biology, especially in cell death mechanisms, metabolic pathways, lipidomics, microscopy and new treatments, including drug discovery and repurposing. For more information, please visit our .About the position
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow to study the composition of lysosomal membranes and the effect of the membrane composition on lysosomal function and membrane integrity. The most challenging task will be the separation of the lysosomal limiting membrane from the intralumenal membranes. These membranes carry out distinct functions but remain poorly characterised due to challenges in isolating them. The overall aim of the team is to develop and optimise new cancer therapies targeting lysosomal vulnerabilities. As a Postdoctoral Fellow you will work independently within a framework of ongoing research and new initiatives. We expect you to participate actively in the experimental work, method development and article writing. In addition, the position entails responsibility for the guidance and supervision of younger colleagues and students.About you
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate with the following qualifications:
- PhD degree in biochemistry/biophysics/cell biology or equivalent expertise
- Excellent technical skills and strong experience with biochemistry and cell biology-based techniques
- Experience in cellular membranes and/or advanced purification procedures would be an advantage
- Publications in international journals
- High level of motivation and courage to try new things
- Ability to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
