Job description

Offer DescriptionWe invite applications for a research position within the framework of a project funded by the National Science Centre (NCN) in Poland. The selected candidate will join an innovative research initiative focused on understanding the role of the HYL1 protein in the regulation of gene expression.About the Project:In eukaryotic cells, gene expression is tightly controlled at multiple stages, including chromatin accessibility, transcription, RNA processing, translation, and post-translational modifications. A key group of regulators in this process are microRNAs (miRNAs)-small, non-coding RNAs that direct gene silencing through sequence-specific interactions. The biogenesis of microRNAs is a complex, multi-step process that involves several protein factors. One of the central proteins in this pathway is HYL1, which binds double-stranded RNA and interacts with DCL1, the main RNase responsible for generating mature microRNAs from their precursors.HYL1 exists in two isoforms: phosphorylated and non-phosphorylated. While the phosphorylated form has traditionally been considered inactive in microRNA biogenesis, recent findings suggest it may play additional, previously unrecognized roles in the regulation of gene expression. In this NCN OPUS-funded project, we aim to explore how post-translational modifications of HYL1 influence its function and contribute to broader regulatory mechanisms within the cell. The research will involve the use of state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques, including:

  • Immunoprecipitation and mass spectrometry to investigate protein-protein interactions and post-translational modifications
  • Fluorescence imaging using confocal microscopy to study protein localization and dynamics
  • Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)for transcriptome and small RNA profiling

We Offer:

  • Participation in a prestigious, NCN-funded research project
  • Access to advanced research infrastructure at the Center for Advanced Technologies (CAT AMU) –
  • Opportunity for professional development in a dynamic scientific team
  • Engagement with cutting-edge techniques in molecular biology and genomics
