Job description

Offer DescriptionWorking within the Climate Services division the successful candidate will work to develop an R software based intense rainfall model which will account for climate change projections predicting rainfall amounts at any specific location which users may require. Currently Met Éireann does have an intense rainfall model which is based on historical data and published a technical report on this last year1 , however this does not include the effects of a changing climate. The model to be developed will not necessarily be based on the current model and as part of the project different approaches will be investigated. Intense rainfall modelling is an area of active research worldwide and encompasses extreme value analysis (EVA) techniques. A review of the current Met Éireann methodology and equivalent approaches by other meteorological services and a literature review will be made to determine possible potential approaches. Testing will allow the optimum model to be identified and further developed resulting in a final documented model with associated intense rainfall datasets and maps for use by workers within Met Éireann and elsewhereRequirementsResearch Field Physics » Metrology Education Level PhD or equivalentSkills/QualificationsESSENTIAL for the job .1.
