Join Wageningen University of a two-year postdoctoral position to tackle socio-economic challenges and contribute to impactful EU Horizon initiatives.The Section of Economics at Wageningen University and Research invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position starting in March 2025. This position focuses on the EU Horizon-funded project “Strengthening Rural Livelihoods and Resilience to Climate Change in Africa: Innovative Agroforestry Integrating People, Trees, Crops, and Livestock” (GALILEO). As a postdoctoral researcher, you will support Work Package 5 (WP5), which evaluates the socio-economic potential of agroforestry systems (AFSPs) for rural communities. Your responsibilities include coordinating data collection, analysis, and deliverables with project partners and task leaders. Additionally, you will contribute to education at the group. You will be working with Anna Lou Abatayo and Francisco Alpízar at the Environmental Economics and Natural Resource Group.Where to apply WebsiteRequirementsSpecific RequirementsYou have/are…

  • a PhD in Social Sciences (completed or near completion) with a demonstrated capacity for independent research and a track record of producing high-quality academic publications;
  • a strong research interest in African agroforestry, with a particular focus on cocoa and coffee systems, and a proven experience designing, implementing, and analyzing surveys to collect quantitative and qualitative data;
  • hands-on expertise in working on and preferably coordinating big projects
  • commitment to actively engage in education and contribute to the learning environment
  • exceptional proficiency in English, with outstanding oral and written communication skills.

The research is embedded in the Environmental Economics and Natural Resource Group, led by Prof. Dr. Francisco Alpízar, a part of the Section Economics at Wageningen University and Research. Additionally, a contract for 0.80 FTE can be discussed. Initially, we offer you a one-year contract, which will then be extended if there is mutual enthusiasm.
