Job title:
Postdoctoral Researcher – Machine Learning for Protein Discovery and Design
Company:
Novonesis
Job description
Are you ready for a new beginning? We need your talent, knowledge and dedication to better our world with biology. Our purpose points the wayIn Novonesis, we know that solutions rooted in biology can help solve humanity’s biggest challenges. Since we began more than a century ago, this has been our guide. It’s how we’ve gotten so far. And it’s how we’ll impact the future. Now, more than ever, the world needs change. And with biosolutions, the possibilities for transformation are endless. We’re here to better our world with biology.Join us as our New Postdoctoral Researcher – Machine Learning for Protein Discovery and DesignWe are seeking a dynamic, team-oriented postdoc to join our Department of Bioinformatics & Protein Design within Molecular Discovery. In this role, you will drive innovation by developing and refining the next-generation machine learning models that address the unique and complex needs of industrial enzyme discovery and design. You will be involved in the end-to-end development of models —from data acquisition to model development and deployment. You will work closely with colleagues to translate computational predictions into actionable insights in projects, ensuring the computational models have a direct impact on real-world enzymatic applications. The postdoc will be carried out in close collaboration with Carlos Acevedo-Rocha at DTU Biosustain (Technical University of Denmark).Welcome to the Department of Bioinformatics and Protein DesignThe Bioinformatics and Protein Design department helps drive integration of the latest computational tools to capitalize on public and internal data assets in the era where we are faced with a wealth of sequence, structure and experimental data. We use bioinformatics, data science and AI-driven protein modeling to identify natural enzymes in close interaction with other departments. We use computational protein design tools to engineer protein backbones to fit production and application needs, and we develop and maintain computational tools and data workflows in close collaboration with the other departments in Molecular Discovery.Your Role and ImpactAs our postdoctoral researcher, you will:Innovate and implement machine learning models that support complex discovery and design tasks in industrial enzyme developmentGuide protein representation models toward practical and industrially relevant outcomes, ensuring alignment with real-world, multi-objective enzyme optimization targetsIntegrate and leverage diverse experimental datasets and ensure a robust pipeline for effective model training and deploymentCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including wet-lab scientists, to validate and apply models for real-world enzyme applications. To Succeed You Must HaveA recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (or equivalent) in computational biology, machine learning, computer science, or a closely related field.Demonstrated hands-on expertise in deep learning, familiarity with frameworks such as PyTorch, and experience in developing advanced protein representations and models.Proven skills in managing, processing, and utilizing large, diverse datasets for machine learning workflowsA passion for bridging the latest theoretical machine learning advancements into tangible real-world biological and industrial applicationsExcellent communication and collaboration skills, with an open and innovative mindset, and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary teamIt’s an Advantage if you also haveFamiliarity with protein structure, sequence analysis, and computational biologyExperience applying AI/ML models to protein sequences and/or structures, such as protein language models or generative protein models.Experience with distributed training, GPU acceleration, multi-node training and generally working with high-performance computing (HPC) environments.Motivation to bridge AI models with experimental validation, collaborating closely with web-lab scientists.A proactive, result-driven mindset with a “go-do” attitude, and a collaborative spirit to achieve shared goals. This is a fixed-term position for 2 years, with a 1-year extension option.Location: Lyngby, Denmark
