With its 11 faculties and more than 80 departments offering state-of-the-art study programmes grounded in research in a wide range of academic fields, Ghent University is a logical choice for its staff and students.YOUR TASKSYou will do research on the intersection between ethics, religion and narrative literature in Greco-Roman Antiquity, including Late Antiquity understood as the period from the sixth century BCE until the sixth century CE. Narrative literature is defined as narrative genres such as epic and the ancient prose novel, excluding (philosophical, e.g. Platonic) dialogue and theatre (e.g. tragedy) for which sufficient research on ethics and religion exists. The research project can focus on either polytheist or monotheist religious traditions. The research should study the way these narrative texts promote and discuss explicitly and/or implicitly ethical issues in literary form through e.g. characterization of intertextuality. You have sufficient experience in the relevant field to be able to prepare a paper for an international peer reviewed journal.WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• You hold a thesis-based doctorate in philosophy, moral sciences or linguistics and literature.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

• We offer you a contract of 70% of definite duration for the period of four months.
• Your contract will start on 01/10/2025 at the earliest.
• Your remuneration will be determined at 70% by salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate).
