Reporting to the Head of Power System R&D, this role is responsible for the full value chain of Power Plant Controller (PPC) development, including conceptualization, design, simulation, hardware testing, and commissioning. The Power System PPC Engineer will play a pivotal role in creating and implementing control strategies, performing system simulations, conducting hardware-in-the-loop testing, and enhancing power system modelling capabilities to ensure optimal product performance.Tasks and DutiesPower Plant Controller (PPC) Development· Design and implement advanced power system control strategies in Simulink for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).· Perform rigorous testing and validation of power system controllers in both simulation (Simulink) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments prior to commissioning.· Collaborate with Control, Software, and Project Engineers to support the design, development, and commissioning of new plants.Power System Modelling· Enhance in-house modelling capabilities for NHOA products using tools such as PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and PSS/E, ensuring accurate and reliable representations of system performance.· Develop and maintain detailed power system models to support system design, grid integration, and compliance with grid codes.Cross-Team Collaboration· Work closely with R&D teams to drive innovation in field-oriented functionalities.· Provide technical support to Project Engineers and Control & Software teams during the commissioning of NHOA power plants worldwide.Requirementso Educational Background: MSc in Electrical Engineering, Automation and Control Engineering, Energy Engineering, or Industrial Engineering. A PhD in Power Systems Controls is preferred.· Programming Skills:o Strong proficiency in Matlab, Simulink, and scripting.o Familiarity with coding languages such as C++, Fortran, and Python.· Power System Modelling:o Knowledge of at least one power system modelling tool (e.g., PSCAD, EMTP-RV, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or PSS/E), with experience in user-defined models.o Familiarity with HIL tools such as RTDS, Typhoon, or OPAL-RT.· Control Systems:o Background in control theory, including small-signal stability analysis, Bode and Nyquist plots, and dynamic system response evaluation.o Experience in control schemes for synchronous generators and inverter-based resources, including grid-forming operations.· Grid Modelling: Proficiency in modelling both large and small grids, with a deep understanding of grid-level performance requirements such as voltage stability, harmonic compliance, and fault ride-through.· Languages: Proficiency in English and Italian is essential; knowledge of Mandarin is a plus.· Software and Tools: Familiarity with version control platforms such as Git and other development tools.· Communication and Collaboration: Strong skills in managing internal and external stakeholders.Other informationLocation: Hybrid remote and Head Quarter in Milan (Piazzale Lodi) or Cosio Valtellino.What we offer·A permanent full time contract·An ambitious employer; we only want the best for you;·Professional experience in an international environment with frequent contact with other colleagues and partner around the world;·Strengthen cross-functional communication skills;·Be part of the young (35 on avg.) and international (+26 nationalities) group and work in a dynamic and fast-moving environment;·A revolutionary way of remote working that meets your needs (www.familyworking.it/en);·A fast career track like only few other companies can match;
