The British Embassy Copenhagen is recruiting a hard-working, dynamic and politically-minded Press and Policy Officer to join its Communications and Public Diplomacy Team. Why should you apply?You will lead on producing our biweekly media summary, providing insights on the Danish media landscape and Danish perceptions of the UK to key-players in the Embassy and in London. You will also work with colleagues on our reactive news desk, responding to national and regional media queries, be a backup to the social media lead, and provide logistical and administrative support to the team. In doing so, you will help develop, distribute and place media content that promotes the UK’s image and interests in Denmark.You will have demonstrable experience of: media handling and monitoring, events delivery, contacts management, social media skills, collaborative work within and across teams, confidence in liaising with colleagues at all levels – including seniors- flexibility and effective organisation of your time, and delivery of results.You will be part of our friendly and high-performing Communications and Public Diplomacy team, working across the Political Section, and wider Embassy to understand the UK’s position on key issues. The British Embassy Copenhagen is part of a world-wide network representing UK political, economic and consular interests overseas.This role is an exciting opportunity to deliver on press and media engagement in a fast-paced environment, aligning the political and diplomatic context of the UK’s priorities with the output of our communications. Ultimately, you will contribute to growing the UK’s reach and influence across the Kingdom of Denmark, and contributing positively to the public perception of the UK in Denmark.What is this role all about?

  • Produce a fast and accurate summary of news about the UK in the Danish media, with regular analysis on issues which impact the UK and its policies;
  • Handle enquiries from, and maintain good relations with, Danish national and regional media;
  • Lead on media plans for the Ambassador’s media engagement including on regional activity, and act as the media lead during Ministerial and Official visits;
  • Draft content in Danish and English for use across different communications channels, including print, broadcast and online press, social media;
  • Support in the organisation and delivery of the Comms and Public Diplomacy Team’s events
  • Support our social media and digital presence and be part of the communications response in a crisis, working outside normal hours as necessary;
  • Assist the political team as needed with desk research, translating, and other ad hoc assignments. The team covers everything from climate change, arctic, security and defence to science and innovation;
  • Maintain 20% focus on policy priorities dependent on the political landscape and support the team with administrative tasks;
  • Cover for the Public Diplomacy Officer and Communications and Digital Assistant as necessary.

Essential qualifications, skills and experienceWhat will you bring to the role?

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Danish** (minimum C1 level*)
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field (i.e. media and communications, journalism, or politics and international relations);
  • Experience of media handling, communications drafting and delivery – ideally including international relations, politics or economics – or working in the media;
  • Ability to understand policy issues and communicate key messages effectively;
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, including proven stakeholder management experience and the ability to work well in a team and be credible with senior colleagues;
  • Experience in events delivery and contacts management;
  • Capacity to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, often delivering on multiple strands of work in parallel;
  • A commitment to respect at work and promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.
