Biodiversity and ecology is a high priority for Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and we
are looking for an experienced ecology/biodiversity professional to lead on the delivery of
this work.

Having recently adopted a new Biodiversity Strategy and having significantly developed our
process for delivering Biodiversity Net Gain, this is an exciting opportunity for someone to
lead an exceptional biodiversity team. Working with colleagues, councillors and external
partners, you will be the driving force for ensuring that actions to support biodiversity and
ecology are delivered across the borough. You will take the lead in developing and delivering a
variety of exciting actions as part of the strategy, along with other key projects and work
programmes.

Basingstoke and Deane has a diverse natural environment which includes the North Wessex Downs
National Landscape, National and Local Nature Reserves, along with a wealth of habitats and
species within our parks and open spaces.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who will line manage up to 4
officers and lead the team in delivering a forward-thinking biodiversity and ecological
service. Working alongside other ecologists/biodiversity officers, tree officers, landscape
architects and open space officers, you will be involved in the strategic management of
ecological and biodiversity projects across the borough including requirements arising out of
the Environment Act (including Biodiversity Net Gain), the council’s Biodiversity Strategy,
working with partners and providing expert advice on development management matters in the
borough.

You will have a proven track record of working within the ecology/biodiversity sector, having
developed and delivered strategies and projects that protect and enhance the natural
environment. A thorough knowledge and detailed understanding of current issues and professional
practices is essential, combined with excellent communication skills.

This position would suit someone who wants to make a difference, is motivated by having a
diverse and varied workload and enjoys working with colleagues, councillors, residents and
partners.
