Job Description:Role: Project ManagerGrade and Salary: Grade 8, £45,585 – £56,081 per annumFTE and working pattern: 1 FTE, 35hrs per week, Monday – FridayHoliday Entitlement: 33 days annual leave plus 9 buildings closed days (and Christmas Eve when it falls on a weekday)Description of ProjectThe Global Environmental Sustainability team are currently based across Estates, Planning, Research and Public Engagement and are responsible for the delivery of one of the key Strategic Performance Indicators for the university. This includes activities to meet the sustainability commitments and delivery of statutory environmental requirements as well as enhancing sustainability outcomes across the full breadth of the University’s activities, including embedding the objectives of the UN Sustainability Development Goals in our learning, research and institutional operations. The team are developing globally relevant targets for our emissions; our organisation practises and behaviours; and co-developing a sustainability engagement programme with our global communities.Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall day-to-day management of core projects within the GES programme as well as prepare the overall reporting for the programme, including timelines, action logs, minutes, identifying key milestones and project work plans, and ensuring that deadlines and deliverables are achieved.
- Work closely with the Strategic Programme Lead to ensure deadlines work with key internal and external reporting requirements.
- Proactively manage close working links with key internal and external stakeholders
- Identify and resolve a wide variety of complex issues using specialist knowledge and a high degree of initiative
- Monitor and produce collated reports, anticipating and documenting project risks and delays to minimise adverse impacts
- Prepare reports on project status for the Global Head of Project Management Office and Director of Strategic Planning, Performance & Projects
- Develop and be responsible for the management of risk and issue management,
- Prepare and deliver written and oral reports on finances and project outcomes for the Sponsor, Project Board and other stakeholders as required
- Assess critical situations accurately and use judgement to quickly make decisions.
- Liaise with the University’s internal administration units.
- Process invoices, payments and provide some general logistics support for key meetings or events.
Essential & Desirable CriteriaEssential * Degree (or equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience) in a business, financial or scientific discipline
- Significant experience of successfully managing projects that involve complex planning and/or significant digital / IT implementation.
- Demonstrable track record of successful working with senior staff with ability to develop strong working relationships at all levels.
- Experience of working in an academic/HEI environment.
- Project and financial management skills, applicable to both small and large projects.
- Organisational skills, relating to own work and that of others with analytical and problem-solving skills, as applied to technical and non-technical hurdles.
- Ability to see the bigger and political picture, and direct effort to key areas, relating the competing needs of various stakeholders.
- Proven high level presentation, communication, and IT skills, obtained through representational, influencing and/or negotiating activities
Desirable * Project Management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, AMPQ) or equivalent experience.
- Postgraduate Degree or equivalent in project management or subject matter area.
- Proven ability to apply project management methodologies across projects of varying complexity.
- Flexible approach to work and responsibilities.
- Energy and enthusiasm for the project.
- Understanding of HWU processes and systems.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience * Ability and willingness to learn new digital skills and capabilities appropriate to your role and how it evolves
- Understand and adhere to information security practices particularly as it relates to personal or sensitive information
- Maintain awareness of my own digital wellbeing by being mindful of the length of time spent at a screen and the impact on mental and physical health in using digital technologies.
