R&D Engineer – Ship Expert

CMA Ships, a subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group, covers all facets of the maritime business: from the fleet management of the vessels to that of the crew members.
CMA Ships is also a team of experts responsible for implementing innovative solutions and making CMA CGM vessels more energy efficient.

CMA CGM Group has decided to structure and strengthen its R&D approach by creating a Center of Excellence dedicated to Innovation and Research. The center will increase the company’s capacity for technological and scientific innovation necessary to meet its strategic objectives (decarbonization, digitalization…), while generating profitability and ensure a high visibility on the Group’s commitment to industry’s energy transition. It will rely on strategic industrial and academic partners experts in the maritime industry (laboratories, companies, startups, shipyards, etc.).

MISSION

Within the R&D department and in cooperation with our fleet center, your mission will be to test, validate and upgrade the consumption prediction models used by our Routing Algorithm.
These consumption models are essential to feed our routing algorithm to perform a dynamic routing in real time in the aim of reducing the CMA CGM group’s emissions.

RESPONSABILITIES

You will be in charge of:

• Exchanging with the R&D Performance and Data Science team on the consumption models development.
• Testing and qualifying the accuracy of the models delivered by the modeling team.
• Orchestrate and monitor the deployed models in the Routing Algorithm ecosystem and Interacting with the stakeholders to ensure the proper integration and usage.
• Define and upgrade the models’ specifications, based on the fleet-center and other users’ needs.

PROFILE & COMPETENCIES

• Graduated with a master’s degree from generalist or marine engineering school, specialized in data science, and interested on maritime industry.
• You have a PhD on Data Science, Operational Research, Optimization and any ML/AI implementation or minium 3 years of related work experience.
• You have a strong mathematical background and modelling capabilities, having worked with advanced statistical/ML techniques.
• Mastery:
  • Python and good to have C++ and Java experience
  • SQL and experience with AWS environment
  • Data visualization tools (Tableau, Qliksense…)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to dissect complex physical problems and identify key factors for informed decision-making.
• Previous experience on consumption prediction models is a strong advantage
• Fluency in French and English are requiered
