As the Montrose Recruiter Specialist, based in the UK, you will lead the recruitment for existing and potential new international development and social performance projects. You will take the lead for finding the highest calibre and context relevant talent during the design and proposal phases through advertising and specific headhunting, drawing on and developing your well connected networks. You will represent Montrose, support the company’s delivery of high-quality international development programmes and nurture the growth of the company’s portfolio within the sector. Montrose is an international development project management and consultancy company providing support to clients operating in the developing world. Specialised in the sectors of health, education, economic development, climate and environment, our clients include bilateral and multilateral development agencies, the private sector, non-governmental organisations and other development stakeholders.

Purpose of the position: To lead recruitment of staff and consultants across the Montrose group, particularly experts in the various thematic sectors for implementation of our projects in countries globally – particularly in Africa and Asia. This includes ensuring high quality and timely recruitment and headhunting, following international best practice in terms of HR compliance and due diligence, and managing and monitoring current consultant contracts. This position sits within the Partnership team and will take a leadership role in further developing Montrose’s engagement with new and existing consultants.

Location: Remotely within the UK.

Core responsibilities of the role:

  1. Searching/headhunting experts for international development, social performance and humanitarian projects including in the sectors of education; health; environment and climate; water, sanitation and health; governance; finance; social protection and inclusion; and climate.
  2. Strengthening Montrose’s networks of experts in each of our core sectors and geographies.
  3. Reading project proposals and terms of references and analysing and interpreting the project requirements and making recommendations for the team structure and composition and being able to then independently search for the right candidates.
  4. Liaising with the business development and programme management teams for an excellent understanding of role requirements and lead discussions with experts to find the most suitable candidates.
  5. Engaging with potential candidates, leading interviews and recruitment including rate negotiation and supporting onboarding.
  6. Contribute to the proposal preparation and writing including participation in preparation meetings and planning, and providing narrative and CVs to be included in the team sections of proposals.
  7. Support with recruitment of staff across the Montrose Group including advertising, compliance and due diligence, interviewing and in-boarding new team members.

How to apply

Personal Specification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional recruiting and staffing experience.
  • Measurable results in recruiting top-tier talent from junior to executive-level roles.
  • Experience leading the recruitment for large international development partners; familiarity with FCDO tenders.
  • Hands-on experience with full-cycle recruitment using various interview techniques and evaluation methods.
  • Experience with multiple outreach sourcing strategies to proactively source candidates.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Attention to detail, organisational and prioritisation skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle a high volume of requests in an effective and timely manner.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
