We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant or Research Fellow with strong analytical skills to work within Prof Marco Springmann’s team on analysing and valuing the impacts that diets and dietary change have on biodiversity and ecosystems. This is an exciting opportunity to join a new multi-disciplinary research team focussing on the role diets and food systems play for planetary and human health.

The post-holder will link the analyses of ecosystem and biodiversity impacts with assessments of food systems and dietary change. A particular focus is to analyse and economically value the impacts food production and consumption have on ecosystem services at global level. Your work will contribute to better represent ecosystems and biodiversity impacts in project appraisals and cost-benefit analyses.

The post-holder will have a first degree in relevant topic at Research Assistant level and postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant topic at Research Fellow level. Relevant experience and proficiency in data analysis and coding (e.g., in R, Python, GAMS) is essential. Further particulars are included in the job description.

The post is full-time and fixed-term for three years, with the possibility of extension. The post is funded by the Wellcome Trust and available immediately.

The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale Grade 5 for Research Assistant in the range £38,282-£43,947 or Grade 6 for Research Fellow in the range £43,947-£49,908 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro-rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London.
