Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research Assistant within UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science.Roots are critical for plant function and food production and play a key role in environmental targets such as carbon sequestration in soil and sustainable nitrogen fertiliser management. But methods to assess vital properties of roots in real world agricultural contexts are extremely limited and time consuming. While conventional visual light imaging allows some properties of roots to be assessed non-destructively, spectral imaging may allow further chemical traits to be extracted rapidly and systematically, enabling development of new tools for rapid in-field root monitoring.The primary purpose of this role is to carry out research work in root biology and spectral imaging to support the RootCheck project, develop new or advanced research skills and competences, and participate in the publication in peer-reviewed academic publications and scholarly dissemination.Salary Range: €30,025 – €39,908 per annumAppointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and experienceClosing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on the 9th of May 2024.Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified.
