The Department of Sociological Studies wishes to recruit a postdoctoral Research Associate with advanced qualitative skills and research experience to work as part of a cross-institutional team on a research project funded by The Leverhulme Trust.

The postholder will be responsible for setting up and carrying out the fieldwork for this project under the guidance and supervision of the project’s Principal Investigator (Sarah Neal, University of Sheffield) and Co-Investigators (Anna Gawlewicz, University of Glasgow, Rhys Dafydd Jones, Aberystwyth University and Jesse Heley, Aberystwyth University).  The postholder will collect, manage, and contribute to the analysis of the qualitative data, writing up research work for publication and disseminating findings at relevant national and international conferences and public forums.

Applicants must have a good honours degree and a PhD in relevant Social Science discipline or equivalent experience with specialist knowledge in either sociology, anthropology or social geography with expertise in one or more of the following areas: rural studies, migration studies, race and ethnicity, community studies, belonging, place-making and social inclusion. 

You should have knowledge of a range of qualitative research techniques and methodologies including ethnography. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with experience of using a range of social media and digital platforms is essential.
