Why do we need you ?

Within the EV fast growing market, Solid state batteries aim at replacing Li-ion technology at short-term, by promising increased energy capacity, functional durability, and users’ safety that the latter does not cover. In Saint-Gobain Research (SGR) Paris, mandated by the Ceramic Business of the Saint-Gobain Group, we conceive solid, inorganic materials and we develop synthesis and shaping processes (prototype) that allow to meet the above objectives, up to their industrialization.

We hire a research engineer for the following, random, tasks:

  • Formulation and material synthesis, through liquid, molten or solid-solid reactions, to improve existing protocols
  • Characterization of products (their chemistry down to impurities, crystal phase identification, particle-size distribution and morphology), thanks to a large panel of instruments we own in SGR Paris, including glove-box under Ar or N2 and dew point conditions imposed by materials
  • Electrochemistry and voltamperometry cycling characterizations in particular
  • Improve the moisture and oxidative sensitivities of our materials, including their safety along their life cycle
  • Collaborate with EU and US R&D teams to customize and segment the technical solutions that meet our industrial customers’ needs, and manage the relationship with these latter
  • Empowerment of technicians, and PhD students
  • Design and adaptation of new equipments for SSB materials’ formulation, synthesis and shaping
  • Purchasing, installation, organization and maintenance activities of laboratory equipment and items. Integration of the existing team of R&D engineers and technicians. Continuous improvement of safety conditions
  • Results capitalization through written and oral (PPT) reporting to internal and external customers

Is this job for you ?

  • PhD in Material Sciences, Electrochemistry, Chemistry of Solids, Physics and Chemistry of Materials, Physical chemistry, or Inorganic chemistry applied to Solid state batteries
  • Previous experience in Solid state batteries
  • Knowledge of Inorganic synthesis and DFT modelling are a plus
  • Safety and Health rules strict application, namely vs. Li metal
  • Rigor, organizational, autonomy and team building skills are essential to the project success
  • Entrepreneurship
  • English fluency
