The School forms one of five within the Faculty of Science and Engineering and consists of two distinct research departments delivering world-leading research and high-class teaching: Chemistry and Physics and Astronomy.

About the Role

The School is seeking to appoint a laboratory Technician to provide technical support of the school’s research laboratories. The post holder will support chemistry labs, condensed matter physics labs and electronic fabrication clean rooms. To support the wide variety of activities we are looking for candidates with either chemical or physics/engineering background but keen to learn the skills to cover the other areas.

About You

Candidates should have degree in chemistry or physics. You should have recent or relevant experience working in a research laboratory environment. An applied chemical science for laboratory scientists’ degree apprenticeship or equivalent experience is desirable. The research laboratory Technician will be responsible for the effective day-to-day housekeeping of the research labs, training new users on equipment and perform routine maintenance and calibration of equipment and that the labs are adequately stocked and supported.

The Research laboratory Technician will work closely with the School Health and Safety Coordinator to ensure that the dedicated lab spaces are operated and maintained in compliance with School and University policy and the UK Health and Safety Executive guidelines.
