The University of South Wales (USW) is one of Britain’s most exciting and ambitious universities. Innovative, thriving, and sustainable, we work to build better futures for our students, our communities, and our partners economically, socially, and culturally.

Our recent achievements include having been awarded ‘Cyber University of the Year’ (for the fourth time in a row), a £20m contract to deliver Health programmes awarded in 2021/22, and we are fully committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, as a University of Sanctuary.

The professional services directorate of Learning Services works holistically and collaboratively to fully realise a high-quality student, graduate and staff learning support offer and experience. Comprising USW Careers & Employability Services, Library Services, and Student Development & Study Skills, we are proud to be an inclusive, welcoming, professionally aligned and achieving team.

The newly developed Research Support Advisor will work closely with the Research Librarian and the USW Library Services department team, to deliver and extend innovative research support services that meet the needs of the diverse community of researchers, authors and postgraduate students at USW.

We are seeking an engaged and inclusive individual who shares our values and can demonstrate a commitment to furthering the reach of USW Research and Innovation, aligned fully to key goal two of the USW 2030 strategy, acting as a responsive member of our Library Services research support team. You will have a qualification in a library & information science, records management or a similar discipline, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a good understanding of the needs of researchers and the application of technology for research support. This role will appeal to a wide range of candidates, with knowledge or experience of working in higher education, library support or supporting the work of researchers. For an informal conversation about this post please contact USW Research Librarian, Nicholas Roberts: [email protected]

The role is part-time and permanent, based at the Pontypridd Campus – Treforest campus, although working at other campuses for the purposes of delivering training or other support work is expected. USW operates a hybrid-model of working and the role would be expected to be worked on campus for part of the week. All campuses are accessible by car and are located within short distances to main public transport links across SE Wales.

If you are successful and this position will be your first professional services role at the University (or you are currently employed by PSS Ltd), you will be employed by Professional and Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of USW, which provides services to the University and Colleges.
