Dementia is the greatest health challenge of our century.

To date there is no way to prevent it or even slow its progression, and there is an urgent need to fill the knowledge gap in our basic understanding of the diseases that cause it.

The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative driving forward research to fill this gap.

Why this role? The UK DRI Care Research and Technology Centre (CR&T) are looking for a motivated, engaged, enthusiastic research technician to join the team at Imperial College London and the University of Surrey. You will be based in White City at Imperial College London and will support a passionate, enthusiastic, and supportive team. We use technology to help prevent support the health and wellbeing of people affected dementia and / or other neurological conditions. Our aim is to develop a system of remote monitoring and digitally enabled care with the goal of supporting people to live well in their own homes for as long as possible.

We are recruiting a research technician to provide high-quality, effective operational support to the research team responsible for delivery of our Internet of Things (IOT) Smart Home study.

What is the role?

We require a research technician to work within the centre to support the Minder research delivery team.  The post holder will assist with coordination and management of the Minder Study while gaining experience of working with people affected by dementia and other neurological conditions; research operations; public patient involvement and engagement PPIE activity; as well as technical skills related to the installation of the Minder system.  The post holder with work with the wider delivery team to ensure optimum data quality and governance standards are maintained.

To perform the role effectively, you will have excellent attention to detail and interpersonal skills.  You will need to a confident and sensitive communicator able to adjust communication to different audiences and context.   You will be well organised with a strong desire to deliver a high standard of work. The research technician will make an impact every day by enabling the Centre to operate efficiently and effectively towards the UK DRI vision for a world where research conquers dementia.

Duties and responsibilities

You will be supporting principal investigators (PI’s) and research coordinator in all aspects research operations, study set up and maintenance.

Essential requirements

  • Are educated to BSc level.
  • Have evidence of research experience.
  • Have excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Can build relationships and networks across all staff levels.
  • Have the ability work in a diplomatic fashion and to handle confidential information with tact and discretion.

Further information

This job post is full time and fixed term for 24 months. You will be based at the White City Campuses of Imperial College London and report to the UKDRI Health and Social Care Lead (Sarah Daniels).
