Job description

Offer DescriptionIf you are passionate about electronic design, have experience particularly in RF circuit design, and want to contribute to cutting-edge research, we invite you to join our team at LAAS-CNRS. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated person who wants to work extensively in the exciting field of sub-THz radio circuit design. In the scope of advanced CMOS technologies for mmW applications, your research will focus in finding new design solutions using sampling mixer technics. The goal will be to improve the performances of mmW receivers (automotive radar and beyond 5G communications) in CMOS. Among the task you will perform, you will:
– Develop an analytical model, able to predict the performance of sampling mixers, in term of linearity and noise.
– Propose receivers’ architectures, using your model outcomes, capable of improving the state of the art.
– Design a demonstrator, in 18nm SOI CMOS, as proof of concept.
– Carry out the characterizations and publish your results. The PhD will be supervised by ST Microelectronics (Crolles) and the LAAS-CNRS lab (Toulouse). The position is limited to a period of three years and will be founded by STMicroelectronics as a CIFRE contract. The PhD student is expected to spend the first half of his/her thesis at LAAS-CNRS in Toulouse, France, and the remainder at STMicroelectronics, on the Crolles site, France.RequirementsResearch Field Engineering » Electronic engineering Education Level Master Degree or equivalentSkills/QualificationsWe are seeking a dedicated individual who thrives on working autonomously, possesses a genuine enthusiasm for scientific inquiry, and demonstrates meticulous attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have completed an above-average master’s program and have a solid knowledge in analog electronics, RF circuit design and signal processing, and should have the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in electronic engineering,
  • Proficiency in mathematical concepts related to analog signal processing,
  • CAD simulation softwares (Cadence SpectreRF and Keysight ADS & Momentum),
  • Good level in English with excellent writing and communication skills,
  • Strong aptitude for teamwork and collaboration.
