We work closely with leading law firms and alternative legal service providers (ALSPs) to secure the best commercial and strategic outcomes for the bankWe are currently seeking an experienced individual to join the the Corporate & Strategic Projects Legal Team. As the Senior Legal Counsel within payments, you will report to the Managing Associate General Counsel (Payments) and work closely with retail, commercial and corporate banking teams in the UK and across the EU on payments law and regulation.You would be at the center of evolution on payments regulatory change and digital innovation, focusing on maximizing commercial opportunities and support delivery of regulatory change programmes.In this role, you will:
- Provide support and advice on matters related to payments regulatory change, including National Payments Vision, Open Banking, fraud, SEPA payments, PSD3/PSR1, fraud and cross border payments.
- Carry out research and analysis of legislative requirements and industry guidance.
- Work on payment services based queries, researching, and analysing legislative requirements and regulatory guidance.
- Legal support for internal bank projects including supporting business and regulatory transformation and representing Legal on relevant working groups.
- Prepare materials to support legal working group meetings and business risk papers.
- Be proactive in the provision of legal support and in advising the business promptly of material legal developments and their implications
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Qualified lawyer with demonstrable regulatory advisory experience gained either within a financial institution or top tier private practice.
- Commercial/project/regulatory and payments sector experience, advising banks and/or fintechs.
- Keen interest in the evolving payment innovation and emerging regulatory initiatives with intellectual curiosity for this subject.
- Big picture understanding of payments architecture and regulatory framework would be an advantage.
- Ability to prioritise, take ownership of matters and work directly and manage multiple stakeholders
