About usThe is home to a collaboration of interlinked neurological research areas, each one focused on advancing translational scientific knowledge to further patient recovery and management, and educating through teaching and academic supervision.Based in the Department, the (NAU) establishes and applies imaging methods and biomarkers to transform the diagnosis, management, and treatment of neurological and neurosurgical diseasesAbout the roleWe are seeking a talented and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher with a background in MRI physics and a strong interest in translational research, to work on developing an efficient MRI protocol and neuroradiological report for Parkinson’s disease (PD) at the NAU, under the direction of Dr David Thomas and Professor Tarek Yousry.Working with collaborators across UCL, the NHS, and Siemens Healthineers, the project will involve the implementation of sequences known to be useful for diagnosis of PD (T1w structural imaging, quantitative susceptibility mapping, and neuromelanin-weighted imaging). You will use the latest rapid acquisition schemes combining parallel imaging and deep learning-based image reconstructions to minimise scan times while achieving high image quality. The aim is to collate information obtained from the images in an easy-to-read visual summary for neuroradiologists to use alongside the original images, as is already implemented in the Unit for other neurological diseases and MRI techniques.The post is available immediately and is funded by an MRC Gap fund for early-stage development of new healthcare interventions award until 31 March 2027.The post is offered part-time at 18.25 hours per week (0.50 Full Time Equivalent).If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online, or have any queries regarding the application process, please contact the Institute of Neurology HR Team ( ).Informal enquiries regarding the role can be addressed to Dr David Thomas ( ).A full job description and person specification for this role can be accessed below.About youYou’ll have a PhD in MRI Physics, Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroimaging, or a related area, and prior postdoctoral experience with a track record of publications and experience of supervising staff or students. Practical experience developing and implementing MRI acquisition protocols is essential, as is experience with MRI data processing and analysis packages and knowledge of MRI acquisition methods relevant to neuroimaging.This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation.
