Senior Research Fellow in Health Economics

The role

We are seeking to appoint a talented health economist to work with the Health Economics Bristol research (HEB) group led by Professor Will Hollingworth and Professor Jo Coast. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced academic to further develop their career within the internationally-leading Department of Population Health Sciences (PHS) in the University of Bristol Medical School (BMS). The position is available on a part-time basis (0.5 FTE) with open-ended funding.

What will you be doing?

The appointed individual will make a significant leadership contribution within the HEB research group, the Bristol Medical School and the wider university. The role holder will further develop their national and international reputation for developing and applying health economic research methods, particularly in relation to resource use and costing methodology. A willingness to contribute to the Bristol Technology Appraisal Group (TAG) based in the department is also required from this post

You should apply if

You have:

1) Expertise in the design and conduct of economic evaluation alongside RCTs in the context of both health and social care, and in associated methodological work, particularly with an ability to lead on research around resource use and costing; 2) Experience of, or willingness to engage in, technology appraisal; 3) Strong record of contributing to successfully completed multi-disciplinary grant applications; 4) Evidence of independence and development of health economics research methods in the area of resource use measurement; 5) Excellent track record in authoring (including lead authorship) peer-reviewed journal articles in leading journals within the discipline; 6) Experience of dissemination of research to national and international audiences (e.g. via conference presentations); 7) Excellent track record in advising on, and supporting, the research of others, including clinical colleagues, junior staff and fellowship applicants; 8) Leadership (e.g. principal investigator) of successful research grants (e.g. ethics applications, managing budgets, recruiting and managing researchers, writing funder reports); 9) Understanding of NHS and local authority structures and commissioning processes; 10) Experience of teaching particularly at postgraduate and continuing professional. development levels with evidence of good feedback from peer reviewers and participants; 11) Supervision / co-supervision of doctoral students (PhD/MD/DDS) to successful completion; and 12) Demonstrated commitment to patient and public involvement and engagement in research.

Work pattern: Part-time/ 50% time

Shift pattern: 17.5 hours per week
