- Experience of working with people with learning disabilities is desirable
- Excellent interpersonal skills and flexibility together with high levels of computer literacy are required
- Ability to manage in a changing and adoptable environment
- Full clean drivers licence essential

Salary ScaleSenior Social Worker Pay Scale €55,460 to €72,013HealthApplicants must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to this post and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient serviceJOB DESCRIPTIONPurpose of the RoleTo support the provision of a professional Social Work Department service to individuals in receipt of services from Western Care Association. The Senior Social Worker is responsibility for the following areas:
- To support adults on the Western Cares database on their caseload in pursuit of their personal outcomes.
- To provide information, advice and guidance to individuals in line with best practice reflecting the individuals right to make their own decisions and self-determination.
- To organise facilitate and evaluate the running of groups to support adults where shared issues of concern arise.
- To oversee the Community Facilitation service. The Community Facilitation service is a discreet community support with Community Workers providing an array of intervention and guidance in the area of relationships, finance, housing, education and the challenges unique to each individual in their pursuit of a fulfilled life.
- To hold a community adult caseload responding to in a defined area.
- To demonstrate a critical understanding of the context in which practice occurs within a wider/social and political milieu, using evidence-based research to advance the intervention approaches within the Social Work Department.
- To undertake the role of Duty Social Worker in rotation with other members of the Social Work Department to ensure continuity and availability.
- To lead out particular set projects and responsibilities as agreed with the Principal Social Worker.
- It is a requirement of this position that the Senior Social Worker would enhance the Community Facilitation service concentrating on the areas of good practice, solution focus leadership, development Policies and Procedures and the promotion of new initiatives and the enhancement of this service to respond to the ever-changing needs in service delivery.
- To actively oversee safeguarding plans and the promotion of self-guarding to the individuals that we support.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- To plan with the Principle Social Worker for the provision of an efficient and effective Social Work service to the adults we serve.
- To have responsibility for their allocated caseload ensuring that all files and Individual Plans are kept up to date and reflect the agreed, the anticipated outcomes and the results of intervention.
- To contribute to the Planning process within the association, through identifying unmet needs and making appropriate and clear recommendations to relevant parties.
- To provide reports and Data as required by the Principal Social Worker, ensuring that deadlines and submissions are adhered to. To maintain relevant Data and update analysis of this Data in support of good decision-making practices within your area of responsibility.
- To be proactive around establishing and maintaining good working relationships with the voluntary and statutory organisations in the defined area.
- To assist the Principal Social Worker ensuring that services are provided within the allocated Budget.
- To have a good working knowledge of current relevant legislation and Agency policy and to be positioned to contribute to National Policy through the identified avenues.
- To liaise with the Principal Social Worker with regard to the development and training associated with key national policies such as Adult Safeguarding, Decision Making arising from the Capacity Act, and other forthcoming relevant national policies.
- To promote and progress the required inter-disciplinary work in your defined area.
- Perform other such duties as may be assigned to you by the Principal Social Worker.
- As duties and responsibilities of any post within the organisation are likely to and do change in response to the changing agenda the Senior Social Worker will be expected to have a high level of flexibility, a willingness and an ability to develop new approaches to their area of responsibilities.
- To provide supervision to all community workers ensuring best practice and appropriate intervention.
Working Relationships & Communication
- Develop and contribute to good working relationships in the Organisation and with all other relevant personnel
- Report to and appraise line manager or designate of all work-related issues and difficulties
- Follow the Association’s Grievance and Disciplinary Procedure, available in the Association’s Intranet
- Maintain strict confidentiality relating to matters regarding personnel and services
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings as required
- Actively participate in supervisory support as per Organisation Procedure
- Be familiar with and operate within relevant local and organisational procedure, directives and general information made available through the line manager
General
- Promote and develop good community networks which support the people we support with inclusion and integration
- Promote a positive image and name of the Association in the wider community
- Be accountable and responsible for input into service planning and delivery, together with job performance as per role within the Association
- Promote dignity at work and show respect to people we support, colleagues and stakeholders in the course of duty
- Act in a confidential manner when dealing with personal information relating to people we support, families and staff
- Attend staff training events as required and implement learning in the workplace
- Perform any other appropriate duties as requested by the person in charge

MayoReporting Relationship: The reporting relationship will be directly to the Principal Social Worker.Working Hours: 28 hours per week – flexibility may be required to respond to service requirementsAnnual Leave: Based on grade attached to the postRemuneration: Senior Social WorkerProbation: A probationary period of six months from the date of appointment applies to thepost. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary periodshould the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. Theprobation period may be extended at the Employer’s discretion.Travel: The person appointed must provide own car and must furnish an indemnityfrom Insurers in favour of the employer. Travelling expenses at the appropriate ratewill be paid in respect of travel necessarily performed in the discharge of duty.
