Fast ApplyJob SummaryDetails of PositionWe are currently looking for native-level English-speaking teachers with an EU passport or the right to work in Italy (due to Italian employment regulations). The minimum qualification for this position is a CELTA or Trinity TESOL and two years of experience teaching mixed levels in accordance with the Common European Framework. Additionally, experience with the Cambridge For Schools suite of exams is essential. A basic knowledge of Italian would be beneficial to allow ease of communication with all staff.We require a warm, friendly and outgoing teacher who can establish good rapport with our well-established classes. We expect applicants to maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and dress in a manner that reflects professionalism and respect for the cultural environment. This is important for fostering a positive and respectful atmosphere in the classroom and community.Senior Teacher hours will be split between teaching and administration. There will be an administrative commitment to be present at the school during morning office hours (10 AM – 1 PM). These hours vary throughout the year depending on the workload. This role will suit an experienced teacher who is seeking more responsibility or an experienced Director of Studies (DOS) who desires a better work-life balance. We are a small team consisting of three English teachers, one Spanish teacher, two administrators, and a Director.The main duties of the Senior Teacher include managing the academic program and the teaching team while working closely with administration. The role includes organizing and overseeing recruitment, induction, testing, reports, meetings, and attendance. Another key aspect is staff development, including biannual appraisals, observations, motivating staff, and CPD delivery. There is scope in the role for new initiatives with a supportive Director. For example, the current Senior Teacher has organized an English pub quiz in a local bar and a recurring English movie night at the local cinema.Contact teaching hours can be expected to range from 16-20 per week, Monday to Friday, usually in the afternoon or evening. The school closes at 9 PM during the week, so that is the latest end to the working day you can expect. If requested, there may be private classes and short courses in the mornings. Additionally, the school provides 15-minute breaks between lessons, and if back-to-back lessons occur, the teacher will be consulted.Class sizes are up to a maximum of 12 students. All teaching materials are provided and a very well-stocked resource room is at your disposal. All teachers have their own personal classroom and the YLs rooms have additional games, arts and crafts materials. All our courses are supplemented with the digital format of the course book. Classrooms are equipped with audio equipment, large wall bracketed TV and smart speakers; which can be employed during classroom activities.It is essential for teachers to be proficient in delivering online lessons. To facilitate this, we provide our own learning management system, and teachers are given personal Zoom accounts. Online lessons must be conducted at the school, not remotely. These lessons are primarily offered for one-to-one sessions and adult coursesTeaching levels:
General Teacher: Teens A2 (Key) to C2 (Advanced) (CEFR)Occasional adult classes or one-to-one (subject to availability and teacher preference).
The Senior Teacher is expected to arrive in early September 2025, prior to courses starting in mid-September.
Location: The position is located in Castrovillari, a small to medium-sized private school with around 250 students. Castrovillari is a charming town in Calabria, southern Italy, surrounded by the Pollino National Park, Europe’s largest national park, and a 30-minute drive from the beach. The town is known for its cultural events, including the Peperoncino Jazz Festival, the Film Festival, the Policino Book Festival, and more. Castrovillari is also home to Italy’s top Carnival celebration and the only indoor bouldering center in northern Calabria. There is an indoor swimming pool, paddle centre and cycle paths that connect to neighbouring villages. The local Basketball team is in Serie C and the local football team is in Serie Eccellenza which hold lively matches at the weekend.
Access to Castrovillari is via coach; there is no train service.
There are international and domestic flights available to Lamezia Terme (1.5 hours away), Salerno (2 hours away), Naples (3 hours away), and Rome (5.5 hours away).
The average rent for a one-bedroom flat is approximately 300 per month.

CELTA/Trinity TESOL and two years of experience teaching General English are the minimum requirements for this role.The Cambridge DELTA or IH Certificate DOS qualification would be a distinct advantage.The CELTA YL or IH Certificate in Teaching Young Learners qualification would also be a distinct advantage.Salary and BenefitsSalary and Benefits:
Director support, including an in-person handover from the previous Senior Teacher.
10 hours of free beginner-level Italian lessons.
A supportive, small-team environment for greater involvement.
Minimum guaranteed salary of 1,600 net with hours varying. The minimum hours per week expected for administrative and teaching duties is 25. There is no overtime for contact teaching hours.
The Senior Teacher is expected to be present at the school every morning.
Paid Christmas, Easter, and public holidays.
