An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Faculty of Engineering to lead a small rapidly growing technical team within the Power Electronics and Machines Centre based on Jubilee Campus.
You will manage a specialist technical team who provide a variety of unique services and support to researchers and leading industrial customers based across the globe.
What will you be doing?
- Provide direction, leadership, support, and guidance to a small team of technical staff.
- Plan, schedule, and monitor, all the support provided by electrical technicians across the different workshops and any associated activities, alongside the Operations Manager.
- Evaluate technical provision through regular conversations with key stakeholders and lead change to shape the technical provision to meet their needs.
- Provide specialist technical advice to researchers, colleagues, and external industrial customers to meet business needs and support the faculty’s research strategy and ambitions.
- Make a leading contribution to the operational management of the Health and Safety across the facility.
- Manage allocated budget/resources effectively, ensuring operational finances remains within the allocated budget, assessing and reporting for planning purposes on the future budgetary requirements of the research group(s).
What qualities are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone with an ability to lead/manage a team and a passion for empowering others to grow professionally and achieve their true potential whilst delivering technical support to the highest standard.
You’ll have the ability the build effective working relationships with a variety of customers by fully utilising your excellent communication skills to offer advice and solutions to sometimes complex problems on a regular basis.
With an aptitude in understanding and interpreting the needs of others, you’ll need to plan and manage workloads to meet demand, quickly building your reputation and that of your team as the place to go for technical support.
This is a permanent, full-time (36.25 hours per week) position based on Jubilee Campus. Job share arrangements may be considered.
