We are looking for a Senior Technical Specialist to join us in the School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham. The School undertakes research across a broad range of themes including Biological Chemistry, Synthesis and Catalysis, Molecular Bonding and Spectroscopy and Materials, supported by some of the most comprehensive analytical and technical services in the sector. It operates across a number of sites, including: the main Chemistry Building and Biodiscovery Institute, both on University Park, and the GSK Carbon Neutral Laboratory on the Jubilee Campus, with technical support provided across all three locations.

This is an interesting and critical role in the provision of those services. As role holder, you will be responsible for providing specialist advice, leading and developing the area of research support within the School. Working closely with academic researchers, you will also pioneer new technical/technological capabilities where feasible and ensure that high quality standards of research support are set, achieved and maintained to deliver a highly effective and efficient research-focused technical support service.

You will manage a team of specialist research technicians who provide support services across all our themes and be responsible for their professional development; you will also work closely with our other technicians who provide comprehensive workshop services; specialist analytical sciences support (such as NMR and Mass Spectroscopy); and comprehensive undergraduate practical teaching support. Although the School is one of the largest Chemistry departments in the UK, it focuses on building an inclusive and supportive culture that allows both our staff and student communities to thrive; as a member of the senior support staff leadership team, you will also help build and shape that culture.

This position is offered on a permanent basis. Hours are full time (36.25 hours per week). Job share arrangements may be considered.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to [email protected]. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
